Paris Chinatown district should rather be nicknamed Asiatown, as it is strongly influenced by the South East Asian cultures from Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand ( many members still being from the Chinese diaspora of those countries) . It is quite different from London’s Chinatown who is mainly under Hong Kong cultural influence.
Walk around Avenue de Choisy and d’Ivry and you’ll be surprised by the number of shops and restaurants serving Vietnamese and Thai food.
A few addresses I am happy to share with you, in case you are tired of European cuisine and want to have a change. Hong Kong, Vietnam, China, every cuisine at reasonable rates.
This is the sequel to the post I published last month on Un Jour à Paris, the cafe restaurant where I had a drink . A few days ago, I was back for dinner with a friend.
Paris has a few big cemetaries, but Pere Lachaise is the oldest one and the biggest one. 69 000 people buried and 3.5 million visitors per year. Not macabre at all, it has been the place elected by the famous and the romantic for their eternal rest. Many celebrities, geniuses and Statesmen rest in peace there. Even singer-actress Cher already bought a concession there, to ensure she would be buried in Paris.
In this season, Allsaints Day coming (equivalent for Chinese people of the Tomb Sweeping Festival ( Qing Ming Jie) in April) , it is a good moment to take a walk at the Pere Lachaise and admire. Let’s wander along the alleys….
You heard of Copacabana, but never of Paris Plages ? You have to come to Paris to see that sandbeach on the bank of the Seine River. Every year, Paris City Council have several tons of sand spread on a Paris Quay for a month. Many quays are usually closed during the summer to enable pedestrians to relax and walk around freely.

The big cities and all the tourist crowded places ( like the French Riviera ) attract a fauna of dishonest people. Like mosquitoes, they converge to all the crowded places where jet lagged tourists hang around with money. Here is a sample of the specimens you may run into.

Summer is coming and the weather gets warmer and warmer… especially on the stuffy Paris subway trains. Fortunately, ice creams, gelati, sherbets are here to help us to cool down. Here are a few addresses of ice cream parlours you’ll love to visit.

I will not pretend that I have visited all the famous ice cream parlours mentioned in this Paris Time Out article, but I can share with you my experience with three of them.
On one chilly winter Sunday, I was supposed to brunch with friends in Paris’ famous Marais area. After running away from certain trendy overcrowded place I had booked, we wandered around, being rejected by several places that were fully booked (as usual on Sundays in that district of Paris). Eventually, our almost desperate quest for food came to a happy end at 64 Rue Vieille du Temple .
Welcome to the « Robert et Louise« restaurant and to itssavoury chimney-grilled meats !
